David Bowie是在柏林居住時寫下的這首歌，而歌詞中出現的高牆就是柏林圍牆。描寫的一對情侶，David Bowie在多年之後終於可以坦承主角是他的製作人Tony Visconti和女友，Visconti當時雖已經是有婦之夫，但對這位女生用情極深讓Bowie深受感動，最後Visconti也離婚和這位德國女孩在一起。仔細算算原文歌詞中”我們(we)”這個單字出現多達30次，你是否也感受到真的很想在一起的心意了呢？
背後的故事寫成讓人有想像空間的歌詞後，議題擴大到兩個相愛的人卻因為遭受外力的阻礙，也許是外人眼光(同性戀、婚外情、家人反對…等)，或是對於未來的茫然、有著不為人知的祕密，都可以被套用在這首美麗的情歌當中，很容易讓人產生共鳴。
這首歌發行於1977年，除了被《壁花男孩》拿來當作貫穿整部電影的主題曲外，它也是David Bowie被翻唱最多次的一首歌。但比起數以千計的翻唱，LCD Soundsystem在2010年發行的歌曲《All I Want》則做了最終極版本的致敬(MV見第一則留言)。我想James Murphy大概聽了這首歌上萬次，最後把Heros都融入骨子裡了才能做出這首歌來吧！
